A Route Shaped Like A Piece of Pie

I rode up to North Auburn and stopped for a few minutes to talk to my wife on her lunch break.  Then I headed through the Auburn Greens area, through Regional Park and then up Dry Creek Rd.  I considered taking Christian Valley but something told me not to do that today, so I made a u-turn just a few meters after turning onto it.  I have learned through trial-and-error to always, always trust that "something" and to heed those silent warnings.

I headed back toward home via Bowman Rd up the short but painfully-enjoyable climb from Dry Creek Rd toward the Bell Rd crossing.  I did alright on that climb, but it took a lot out of me.

From there I headed home.  I had hoped to best my time on the descent down Lincoln Way between Foresthill Rd and El Dorado St today, but I did not have a good effort like that left in me at that point.

I wore my skinsuit today.  However, any coolness I may have gained by doing so was quickly eliminated by the fact I had to use a Bento Box to hold the stuff that would normally have in my jersey pockets.  Okay, let us be fair - not only did I undo the coolness of the skinsuit, but the use of the Bento Box cost me points as well.  Nonetheless, it was a matter of function over form today.  Don't judge me.

Ride safely and enjoy your long weekend!

Love the blog! I read a lot of older posts last week. In fact, just so you know....I was riding with my son last weekend and I was telling him about one of your posts that really rang true for me. You spoke of training differences between last year and this year. You mentioned that sometimes you back off on a ride to a comfort zone rather than push slightly outside that zone - and THAT is where you start seeing gains. I'm a comfort guy. I really don't outside of it often enough. The fact that you removed your high gear cog set just blows me away. I don't think I can ever do that now that I've gone to the dark side (12-28).

Ride on.....Mark Anderson
